1. Introduction to iShield™

1.1 Product Description

iShield™ is internet filtering software used to block and filter inappropriate content such as nudity and pornography. iShield™ identifies and blocks any potentially pornographic image displayed within the web browser. It does this regardless of the web source material. This means that you do not have to worry about keeping lists of suspect web sites up to date, because the software bases its decision on the content, not the web site from which the content originates.

iShield™ allows the parent or guardian administrative control over all Internet access and offers flexibility and control over the pornographic content seen on the computer.

1.2 Key Features

iShield™ combines a number of analysis techniques and advanced technologies to screen computer systems for pornographic material.

iShield™ filters files and blocks pornographic material using proprietary analysis and standard techniques.

1.3 Conventions Used in This Document

The target audience of the iShield™ User Guide is the parent or guardian of the household who is assumed to be the administrator in this document.

1.4 Other Guardware Products

iShield™ Plus is an enhanced version of iShield™ for the home user. In addition to the iShield™ features of logging and replacing suspect images within the web browser, iShield™ Plus monitors all other images displayed on the PC screen, no matter what their source (CDs, floppy discs, peer-to-peer communication, DVDs, etc.). As with iShield™, you can log the user's activities, send a warning message, or completely block the screen, depending on what the parent or guardian wants to do. This feature gives you complete confidence that your child is protected from pornographic material, irrespective of its source.

ScreenShield™ - Enterprise takes the features offered in the iShield™ and iShield™ Plus products and combines them with the network management features required to deploy and control the system in the enterprise. This means that ScreenShield™ - Enterprise offers you the following package of products:

• The protection and logging features offered with iShield™.
• The monitoring of all other suspected sources provided by iShield™ Plus.
• The enterprise-wide network management features required to administer ScreenShield™ - Enterprise throughout your organization.

URLChecker is a joint development of King Abdul Aziz City of Science & Technology (K.A.C.S.T.), Saudi Arabia and Guardware. The primary purpose of URLChecker is to automatically categorize websites as being i) highly likely to be pornographic, ii) highly likely to be non-pornographic, or iii) boundary (requiring manual categorisation). The secondary purpose is to maintain a database of previously categorized websites, allowing the entries to be edited using a web interface and the contents to be exported into a suitably structured file for uploading to third party URL blocking solutions.
